Statement
I am a son, a little brother, and a twin.
A black sheep.
An explorer.
A mama’s boy.
An archivist.
A mediator.
A murmur.
A rag doll.
A word unsaid.
A place with a feeling and no words to match
From the time I began to notice the kind of thing that set me apart, like the inflection of my voice and way I walked, I felt an underlying sense of otherness. A knot in the depths of my thin frame, which grew as I became more aware of the world and my mothers wardrobe. Despite this looming sense of dread, I could always connect with my brothers via the microcosms of Middle Earth or an exploration outdoors.
Insecurities surrounding my identity developed in tandem with the complex dynamics that suffused home life, to the point where one seemed inextricable from the other. Through my artmaking practice, I seek to recall, celebrate, interpret, or make peace with the interplay of these themes as they continue to play out through the harmonies and discord of family dynamics.
The use of distorted images and forms is intended to subvert the viewers attention in order to maintain an element of secrecy and hiddenness. My works materialize through repetition and play, as iterative attempts to find the thread connecting one piece of evidence to the next.
